Why is it important to take an asbestos test?
For the protection of workers and people, the regulations concerning materials containing asbestos (ACM) are very strict. In Quebec, an ACM contains 0.1% or more asbestos.
According to the provisions for the safe management of asbestos in Quebec's occupational health and safety regulations, all buildings that were built before 1980 are considered to be at risk of containing materials containing asbestos.
What are the materials that can contain asbestos?
Here is a list of the materials containing asbestos that are most commonly found in our buildings :

- Textured finishes (stucco and roughcast)
- Gypsum board and joint compounds
- Vermiculite type insulation
- Heat insulators (insulation found on pipes or boiler room components)

How is an asbestos analysis done?
There are different methods of analysis for asbestos. In Quebec, the Institute for Research in Occupational Health and Safety (IRSST) dictates the preferred methods in Quebec.
Benjel therefore offers you four main methods that can adapt to your situation: polarized light optical microscopy (MLP), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for bulk, phase contrast microscopy (PCM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for air samples.
